2016 Event

Press Release from the 2016 event

Coinciding with International Women’s Day, more than 100 players representing 21 clubs participated in the three-day Women’s National Invitational at The National golf club on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria this week (7-9 March 2016).

The inaugural event offered women golfers the chance to play three of the top 100Australian golf courses in one tournament.  “The National Invitational initiative celebrates women’s golf and the important role it plays in the health and well-being of women throughout their lives,” said Jon Gahan, General Manager of The National.

“This event has been a long time in the making. We have a successful annual three-day event for the men, the men’s senior open. Our intention has always been to offer a similar experience for women. “The National is committed to the success of this event and the rare opportunity it provides for women golfers around Australia to play three of our four outstanding courses – The Old, Moonah and Ocean. During the next three years we hope it will become a premier event in the women’s golfing calendar, “ he said.

Each day of the tournament presented a different weather experience including perfect sunshine and tropical rain. Various competition formats allowed players to participate as individuals and as part of a team. Many groups were excited to use the event as a ‘get away’ opportunity participating in all three days and celebrating in the evenings with the exquisite food offered at The National.

Next year’s event will run from 13th– 15thMarch 2017.
